Obituary for Barry Woodrow

Barry Woodrow

The family announces with great sorrow his passing in the comfort of his home surrounded by his two daughters by his side after fighting a courageous battle with cancer on Monday, June 27, 2016 at the age of 76 years. Beloved father to his two precious daughters Karen Yanda (David) of Brandon, Manitoba and Jennifer Woodrow-Dore (Marc) of Timmins. He leaves his brother Stuart Woodrow (Shirley) of Oro Station, Ontario. Dear uncle of Darren and Stephen Woodrow. Predeceased by his parents William & Cora Woodrow, his brother Roy Woodrow and his nephew Kevin Woodrow.

Barry graduated from Ryerson University as a chemical engineer. He enjoyed a diverse career that allowed him to travel to many corners of the world to do what he loved, which was to experience new people and cultures. Barry had a passion for the outdoors and was an avid runner and fitness enthusiast who embraced the outdoors and nature. He was a free spirit who in his pastime participated in numerous marathons throughout his travels. He loved animals of any kind and they in turn naturally gravitated to him and formed special connections that lasted to his final days. A man of humility about his own life achievements, Barry never missed an opportunity to share his greatest accomplishments, which was the passion and pride he had for his "girls". He was so proud of them both and would never miss an opportunity to voice his love for them!He was a man of unwavering integrity, while remaining a modest and exceptionally humble and gentle soul. He was and will always remain a true inspiration.

The family would like to express thanks to all the professional health teams, doctors, oncologists and nurses from Health Sciences North, Timmins and District Hospital and the supportive staff of St. Mary's Garden who took care of Barry and who made it possible for him to stay at home.

As per Barry's wishes, there will be no formal service. In lieu of flowers, remembrance donations to the Northern Cancer Foundation would be greatly appreciated. The family will receive friends from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at the MIRON-WILSON FUNERAL HOME,CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE150 Balsam St. S. Timmins
