Obituary for Maria Greatti (Colavincenzo)

Maria Greatti (Colavincenzo)
Greatti, Maria (nee Colavincenzo)
1931-2023
A 92-year life of selflessness came to its close on May 22nd 2023 at the Timmins Extendicare as she—in her final act of giving—gave up her spirit to God. She is welcomed in eternity by her mother, Anna Colavincenzo (nee Marcantonio), her father, Domenic Colavincenzo, brother Robert and sister Fanny, as well as by her husband, Marcello Greatti. Maria was a lifelong Timmins resident, attending Central School and Timmins High and Vocational School growing up. She found employment afterwards at local businesses as a bookkeeper until she married and began the life she always spoke of as her most treasured profession: wife and mother. She devoted her life to family, and became the magnetic north that kept the family drawn to Timmins, knowing that anywhere she was, there was a big welcome, a loving smile, and a great meal. She was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Church, working there for many years in the office, and serving as Cantor at mass for many more. Parishioners will remember her conducting the congregation, preferring to lead the people in worship rather than drawing attention to herself as a singer. She was a talented singer, though, singing with the Porcupine Dante Club Choir, and the Porcupine Choristers. Her clear, singular voice was always steady and reflected her love of music and attention to excellence. She is survived by her son Marc (Chandra) of Halifax NS, and her daughter Leanna McLean (Dale) of Timmins. Her grandchildren—Elena, Liah, and Andrew—will remember a pure and unconditional love. All of her family knew that her delicate frame was stuffed with a massive heart, and that her shoulders were big enough for everyone to cry on. The funeral mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday May 27th at Sacred Heart Church (Fr. John Lemire officiating). A reception will follow in the Miron-Wilson Reception Lounge. Remembrance donations to Sacred Heart Church would be greatly appreciated. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Friday May 26th, and from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday May 27th at the MIRON-WILSON FUNERAL HOME Cremation and Reception Centre 150 Balsam St. S., Timmins.
