It is with great sorrow that the family announces Joan's passing on Wednesday July 20, 2016 at the Timmins and District Hospital after a courageous struggle with cancer.
Joan was born on September 15, 1948 in Ruddington England, the youngest child of Philip and Blanche Rear. The family immigrated to Canada in 1952 to join Blanche's sister Joan Wallingford (Nick) in Timmins, Ontario. Predeceased by her brother Roderick (Yvette). Joan is survived by her loving husband William "Bill" Pye and Earl Williams, the father of her children; Elaine Williams (Ken Holm), Aaron (Desa) and Ian (Samantha). She is also survived by her son Andy Delgarno and stepchildren Ken (Cindy) and Laurie (Jennie). Dearest grandmother of Julian, D.J., Lailen, Justin, Sophia, Lily, Damian, Elijah, Jonathon, Jennifer, Dante and Darcy. Cherished sister of Elaine Nyman (Bill Buchan,) sister-in-law of Anne Davidson (George) and Beulah Martel.
Joan loved the outdoors, gardening, fishing and hunting. After retiring from the Kidd Creek Met site and her consulting career, many of her happiest times were spent at her Horwood lake cottage. A talented artist and accomplished quilter, Joan's work has been exhibited at the Timmins Museum, La Galeruche, NOAA Juried show and this past month at the Timmins and District Hospital Gallery. she was an active member of the Porcupine Art Club and Timmins Quilters Guild. Joan enjoyed cross country skiing, golfing and curling with the New Horizon Curling League. Joan and her dog Riki volunteered with the St. John's ambulance therapy dog program. The family would like to express heartfelt Thanks and appreciation to Dr. Mills and the staff of T.D.H. who helped to ensure the quality and comfort of our loved one's time in the final days of her journey. As per Joan's wishes there will be no funeral or visitation, Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Remembrance donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Charity of your choice will be greatly appreciated. The funeral arrangements have been entrusted with the MIRON-WILSON FUNERAL HOME, Cremation and Reception Centre, 150 Balsam St. S., Timmins.
