Obituary for Joan Marie Rita Caron (Ladouceur)

Joan Marie Rita Caron (Ladouceur)
Joan was born April 6, 1941, in Timmins, Ontario to Isadore and Margaret Ladouceur. Cherished wife of the late Gilbert Caron and his children Christine, Sam, and Sue. Loving mother of Wendy Rochon, Wayne Rochon (Nicole Hopson) and the late Margaret Rochon. Beloved grandmother of Scott, Jacob, Shannon, and Jeff. Proud great grandmother of Daniel, Marc, Roch, Danica, Caroline, Karine, Ellyott, Emmytt, Kaidyn and Abyll. She will be missed by her siblings Isadore Ladouceur and Eleanor Trottier and many nieces and nephews. Joan is predeceased by her brothers Cecil and Donald Ladouceur and her first husband and the father of her children, Reg Rochon “Uncle Buck”.

Mom came from humble beginnings where she learned the importance of family, trust, honesty, integrity, and love. She often would help in the caring and raising of other family members children by providing a safe and loving home. While growing up, the other children in the neighbourhood would gravitate to her for support, compassion and understanding. She gave of herself selflessly; the same that she was taught growing up. Later in her life, the adult children that she comforted, would share that Joan was like their second mom.

Joan’s passion was primarily her children and the art of sewing, knitting, and crocheting. From a young age, she taught herself these skills and became quite talented in whatever she tried. With the help of her late best friend Maureen Rousseau, she designed and made her own wedding dress, as well as, the dresses for her wedding party. She also made all her own flower arrangements and crocheted gifts for all the guests. She was not only a talented seamstress; she was also a very resourceful and a resilient woman. If there was something to preserve, can or bottle, she did it and did it with excellence. Joan loved the outdoors and would spend many fun filled hours exploring, going on picnics, and fishing with her family and friends. Throughout her life her children were of utmost importance. She supported her son’s passion for music and provided support when he most needed it. She supported her daughter by attending school concerts, plays, functions, sporting events, and helped her in reaching her life long goals.

Joan fought a long and courageous battle with COPD and CHF. Despite the slow progression of her disease, she continued to push herself hard and without complaint; always trying and wanting to help regardless of her limitations. She passed away peacefully into the loving arms of God.

The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to all the staff of Closing the Gap, Medical B at TDH and special thank you to Lynne Gravel RN whose sincere interest in mom’s well being was beyond exemplary. Her compassion, genuineness, and humanness will never be forgotten; Christy and Nat from the Community Para-Medicine Program, Tenille Sweet and her team at North East Home and Community Care Support Services, the Registered nurses from Bayshore, The Canadian Red Cross Meals on Wheels Program, Joelle Gauthier with CMHA and Marc Degeit from MDG landscaping and snow removal.

As per her wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held this spring. Remembrance donations can be made to the Canadian Lung Association or the Turtle Pond Wildlife Centre for wildlife rehabilitation, Val Caron, Ontario, would be greatly appreciated. The funeral arrangements are entrusted with the MIRON-WILSON FUNERAL HOME, CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE 150 Balsam St. S. Timmins.

To those whom I Love & Those Who Love Me

When I am gone, release me, let me go
I have so many things to see and do,
You mustn't tie yourself to me with too many tears.

I gave you my love, and you can only guess
How much you've given me in happiness.
I thank you for the love that you have shown,
But now it is time I travel alone.

So, grieve for me a while, if grieve you must,
Then let your grief be comforted by trust.
It's only for a while that we must part,
So, Treasure the memories within your heart.

I won't be far away for life goes on.
And if you need me, call and I will come

Though you can't see or touch me, I will be near.
And if you listen with your heart, you'll hear,
All my love around you soft and clear.

And then, When you come this way alone,
I'll greet you with a smile and a "Welcome Home"
