Condolences

Condolence From: Frank Zamkotowich
Condolence: The art world has lost great advocate and teacher. Anita's research as a historian and a thinker inspired students, artists, and scholars world wide. During her tenure at the School of Art, University of Manitoba she fostered a rich dialogue with colleagues and the art community at large. She was a great supporter of all forms of art and the pulse that gives it meaning.

Condolence From: Lise B. L. Goulet-Bérini
Condolence: It is with great sorrow that I received the news today about Anita's passing.
I met Anita when I was in my teens through my uncle Clément Bérini. I always admired her for her intellectual abilities, her very nuanced knowledge of art and her quirky sense of humor.
After my uncle's death (1996) I asked her to curate a show about his work. She worked on the projet and in the year 2000 a catalog entiled "Clément Bérini A Spiritual Odyssey / Une odyssée spirituelle" was published by the Museum in Timmins. The show was a great success, it presented 36 paintings which traced my uncle's lifelong work as an artist. Anita is the authority on his work.
After my uncle's death I grew closer to Anita and enjoyed visiting with her every year I went back to Timmins. We e-mailed and called each other throughout the years, had great conversations and laughs.
You will be missed chère Anita, très affectueusement,
Lise
P. S. : I would like to contact Dennis and Vincent, please pass on my e-mail address to them. A donation will be made to the Fondation Clément-Bérini Foundation (www.fondationclementberinifoundation.ca)

Condolence: I met Anita in the early 90s when I joined Amnesty in Timmins and we had been working together ever since. She was very keen on bringing awareness of human rights issues to students through art projects. Over the years, we chatted a lot about her love of art, her dogs, her garden, her work with the museum and the Timmins Film Society just to name a few things. I will miss our talks, her wisdom, her guidance. She was a wonderful mentor. My sincere condolences to her family.

Condolence: Anita began a household name in the Amnesty International office a long time ago. I honour her contributions to the protection of human rights for individuals she would never meet. What selfless and persistent work! My sympathy goes out to all who will feel keenly the loss of her physical presence in their lives.
