The family announces with great sorrow the passing of Darryl at the Timmins and District Hospital on Monday, March 12, 2018 at the age of 53 years. Loving husband of 25 years to Gioela (nee Comand). Dearest brother of Lyle (Jan), Marlin (Brenda) and Kevin (Wendy) all of Tavistock. Loving uncle to Karla & Dwayne Becker and their children Ethan and Wyatt, Amy Bender and her children Beau and Quinn, Kim & Jordan Destun and their son Jacob, Christopher and Erin Bender and their sons Miles and Owen, Stephanie Bender & Kirk MacRae and their son Reeve and Justin and Inge Bender and their daughters Reverie and Ivy. He is survived by his father in-law Marcello Comand (Late Vilma) and his sister-in-law Carla Comand-Desmarais (husband Gaetan) and their daughters Gabriella (Darcey) Brunet and their daughter Kora and Isabella Desmarais. Predeceased by his parents Orville & Olive Bender.
Darryl was born and raised in Tavistock, Ontario. After college, he relocated to Timmins for employment, and that is where he met Gioela, the love of his life. Darryl enjoyed an almost 30 year career with MPAC. He embraced life in Timmins with new family, friends and colleagues, and with a spirit of community, serving as President of the Rotary Club and as a member, and later as Staff Sergeant, of the Timmins Police Auxiliary. Darryl was an excellent cook and gracious host who loved to entertain friends and family! Darryl was an avid fan of the Boston Bruins. He had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening. Over the past several years, Darryl enjoyed his relaxing vacations in Florida with Gioela. Darryl loved his family and was a wonderful uncle to all of his nieces and nephews, taking interest in all of their adventures. Darryl will be warmly remembered by all whose lives he touched.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, March 16, 2018 from St. Anthony's Cathedral of Padoua (Msgr. Pat Lafleur officiating). Interment at the Timmins Memorial Cemetery. Remembrance donations to London Health Sciences Foundation C/O Transplant program University Hospital, Timmins & District Hospital Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated. The family will receive friends from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at the MIRON-WILSON FUNERAL HOME, CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE
