Obituary for Antonio "Tony" Ferraro

Antonio "Tony" Ferraro
FERRARO, Antonio “Tony”
1933-2020
It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Antonio Ferraro (Tony), 86, at Timmins and District Hospital on May 22, 2020. Tony is survived by his wife of 59 of years, Doreen (née Marini), his son John (Deb), his daughter Lisa, and his beloved granddaughters, Paige and Ireland Power. Predeceased by his parents, Anna and Luciano Ferraro, his brother Domenic, as well as his brother-in-law, Dino Ferrara, his sister-in-law, Rena Bellini, and his brother-in-law, Valdo Bellini. Survived by his sister, Dina Ferrara, his sister-in-law, Loretta Ferraro, his brother-in-law, Fred Marini (Verna), and his sister-in-law, Mary-Anne Marini. Tony also leaves behind numerous nephews and nieces. Tony was born in the small Italian village of Torre de’ Passeri, in the Province of Pescara, Italy. In Italy, Tony worked on the family farm and played soccer in his leisure. In the search for a better life, Tony came to Canada by boat in 1953. When Tony arrived in Canada, he did not know one word of English; however, he had the good sense to request a hotdog from a nearby vendor on the harbour. Tony had a love of food that most Italians share. He was at his happiest when his family was gathered at a table, sharing a delicious meal that his wife, Doreen, had prepared. Tony was also an avid darts player and his skills awarded him several trophies. He loved the Toronto Maple Leafs, fishing, and hunting. As a person, Tony was kind, gentle, and easygoing. He had a quiet charisma that gained the favour of everyone he met. The greatest joys of his life were his two grandchildren, Paige and Ireland. Tony, or “nonno”, cared for his grandchildren as if they were his own children. With Doreen, he raised them into the women that they are today, and “his girls” are extremely proud to call him their nonno. The family would like to thank Dr. Ciccone, Dr. Parmar, the nurses at Timmins and District Hospital, and the PSWs that provided much assistance to Tony. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, cremation has taken place and private family service will be held at a later date. Remembrance donations to the Kidney Foundation of Canada would be greatly appreciated. The funeral arrangements are entrusted with the MIRON-WILSON FUNERAL HOME, CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE. 150 Balsam St. S. Timmins.
