1925-2015

The family announces with great sorrow his peaceful passing at the Golden Manor in Timmins on Saturday, August 8th, 2015 at the age of 90 years.
Beloved husband of 66 years to Sheila Mortson (nee Kennedy). Loving father of Shelley Bamford (Pat), Jamie Mortson (Barbara), late John Angus (Linda), Bruce (Susan), Gail Sokoloski (Darrell), Kim Laforest (Marc) and Scott Mortson (Donna). Also left to mourn are his 17 grandchildren; Jonathan, Mathew, Evan, Dana, Kelsey, Stephanie, Christina, Leah, Brent, Taryn, Lisa, Jennifer, David, Nicole, Danielle, Amanda and Caitlin as well as his 9 great grandchildren; Jared, Alyssa, Samantha, Sarah, Nash, Miller, Isla, Everett, Tatum.
Gus was a former Toronto Maple Leaf Defenceman Stanley Cup Winner (1947, 1948, 1949 and 1951). He also made the very first NHL All Star Team in 1947 and went on to play in 8 All Star Games. After his hockey career Gus was very involved in his community and was the coach of the Timmins North Stars and of the Timmins Kinsmen Juveniles. He was actively involved with the Schumacher Lions Club for a number of years, also a past president of the Timmins Rotary Club, and a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow Award. The family would like to thank the staff at the Golden Manor on the Special Care unit for their excellent care. Remembrance donations to the Alzheimer’s Society or the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated. The family invites friends to attend a memorial reception on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. at the
