Obituary for Viola "Vi: Lapalme (Landers)

Viola "Vi: Lapalme (Landers)
The family of Viola (Vi) Lapalme are sad to announce the peaceful passing of our family matriarch on Thursday May 12, 2022. Vi left this world as she lived her life, on her terms and when she was good and ready.

Vi joins her beloved husband Orval (Babe), sons Gerald and Denis (Cathy Malette), grandson Jeffrey (Danie Barr) and son-in-law Rene Lauzon.

She will be missed by her surviving kids Norman (Maureen Tomlin), Aline, Andre (Lillian Hunkeler,) Rosanne (Luc Desjardins) and Michel (Julie Mehlenbacher) and children Maddie, Ben and Will). She was much loved by her grand children, Allain (Tanya) and Ly-Anne Lauzon, Sylvie, Natalie, Chantal (Jeff) and Adam (Nicole) Desjardins, Franny (Jeff) and Katherine (Jamie) Lapalme, Jennifer (Hugh) and Michelle (Jamie) Lapalme, Jeremy and Maddy Lapalme and Gabby Lapalme. Vi was "Grandma the great" to Aiden Desjardins, Henry and Wesley Werby, Alex Clark and Miles MacMillan.

Born to Dora and Michael Landers on December 10, 1932, she is predeceased by brothers Jimmy, Ernie, Michael, Norman and Lawrence and sisters Laura, Florence, Isobel, Ida and Muriel. Vi is survived by her sister Arlene and her brother in law Walter Tonelli.

We would like to thank Sue Provot and her staff at the Spruce Hill Lodge and Nick Klimo from Bayshore for the care and compassion they showed Mom in recent months.

The family of the late Viola Lapalme will be gathering over the Labour Day weekend to celebrate a life of great devotion to her family. We will also be honouring two other family members, her son Denis and grandson Jeffrey, who we tragically lost during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Friends and relatives are cordially invited to drop by the Miron-Wilson Funeral Home on Saturday September 3 between 10:30am and 12:00pm to renew acquaintances and reminisce and as we remember three beloved members of our family. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a charity or cause of your choice.

Throughout her life Vi faced many challenges and hardships head on but was always determined to overcome them and help her family understand that during difficult times families pull together. A lesson that we are all trying to live by.

Always the devoted wife and mother, Vi was an avid supporter of any of her children's endeavors. She loved bingos and dances and bowling in the Moose Hall league, she cheered on all the Moose hockey teams.
Mom welcomed our friends into our house and was always ready to set another place at the table.
Vi was an avid card player whether it be the early morning Crazy Eights match with dad (the win / loss record dutifully recorded on the calendar for all, to see), games of crib, 500 or Hearts when there were any takers. She especially enjoyed the Lapalme family poker games with Grandma Lapalme, Tante Aline, Uncle "Mo", Dad and any other person willing to ante up. She can now join them at the table. Time now to shuffle the deck, cut the cards, and let the game begin.

The funeral arrangements are entrusted with the MIRON-WILSON FUNERAL HOME, CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE, 150 Balsam St. S, Timmins, ON.
