1924-2020
Passed away peacefully at Extendicare Timmins on Tuesday, January 28, 2020. She was born to the late Carl and Norine Daly, in Timmins, on May 15, 1924. Velma was predeceased by her loving husband and father of her children Alex Getty, and Arthur Orr as well as her siblings: Sheila Varker, Shirley Cocklin, Redmond, Donald, and Carl Daly. Velma is survived by her sister Elma Cochrane (Bill), daughter Carroll Lapraik (John), son Brian Getty (Gina) and a very special niece Bonnie Thorne (Gary) of Burlington. Nanny is also survived by seven grandchildren: Norine Klein (Erik), Jill Lapraik (Randy), Alex Getty (Vanessa), Rebecca Getty (Mark), Sherri-Lynn Illingworth (Grant), Bradley Thorne (Isa) and Bill Thorne (Donna) as well as ten great-grandchildren, Bradley Miettinen, Spencer and Justin Illingworth, Kaitlin, Olivia, Bennett, Bradley, Abby, Ella, and Noah Thorne; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family whom she loved dearly.
Mom’s life was characterized by faith, hard work, generosity, honesty and devotion to family. She marched to her own beat and you always knew where you stood with Mom. She is at peace now and will join all her beloved family in heaven. At this time, the family would like to thank the angels at Extendicare-Timmins, Kamiskotia for the warm and compassion shown to Mom in the last few years. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Anthony’s Cathedral or the Alzheimer’s Society of Timmins-Porcupine District. A funeral service, celebrating her life, will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 11:30 am in the Miron-Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 1, 2020 from 9:30 – 11:15 am at the MIRON-WILSON FUNERAL HOME, CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE, 150 Balsam St. S. Timmins.
