Obituary for Stella Marguerite Wesley

Stella Marguerite Wesley
Stella Marguerite Wesley, age 57, died on Tuesday the 14th of January, 2020 at 2:19 pm. On October 11th 1962, Stella was born to the late Annabella Noah and late Remi Nakogee at St. Mary’s hospital in the town of Attawapiskat. She was the “baby” sister of eldest Pauline and would welcome many more siblings to come. At the age of fifteen, she married the late Joseph Wesley and not long after, they welcomed their firstborn son Virgil, followed by two daughters, Jennifer and Jocelyn and another son Tyler. Her four kids later went on to give her fifteen grandchildren.

She started teaching at J.R. Nakogee’s school portables at age fourteen, which is where, nearly forty years later, she’d go on to be principal for another number of years. While her children were still in their youth, Stella went back to school and achieved her teaching degree. She received her bachelor’s degree after she had graduated.

A true pioneer of her hometown, she played a role in getting the government to build and open a new elementary school. Stella was known for her light sense of humour, her glowing smile and her contagious laugh.

Her love for children was pure. Her home was always open to her friends and family where she’d host tea parties and fun get-togethers. Stella lived an adventurous life, traveling up and down the coast from New York to Alberta, Winnipeg to Cuba.

Not one for being alone, she made a point in bringing along her aunt Maryanne or the Kokum Theresa. In the last few years of her life Stella resided in the town of Kashechewan where she worked as a teaching educator to many young children who grew quite fond of her.

Stella’s face never failed to light up when her eyes landed on her dearest sisters and her face always broke out in a smile when she talked of her brothers. Her grandchildren loved her very dearly and had various bonds with Stella. Although this wonderful woman was sick and suffered in her last years, she never let her poor health neither interfere nor define who she was, being the stubborn but admirable woman she was. She was an intelligent, powerful, and beautiful woman. She believed in being kind to others, she believed in the power of education and she believed in God and His son. She has inspired many youths, was admired by peers and was loved by friends and family.

Remember Stella, may she rest in peace.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at the

MIRON-WILSON FUNERAL HOME,
