Obituary for Sophie "Fif" Whissel

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of our beloved Sophie who left this earth unexpectedly on December 28, 2020 at the tender age of 21 years. The mark Sophie left on this earth will be ever-lasting. Survived by her parents Chantale Perrier (Marcel Boulay) and Marcel Whissel (Crystal Bouchard) and her Nana Dorise Perrier. Lovingly remembered by her siblings Céleste Whissel, Joёl Whissel and Julie Whissel. Dearly cherished by her niece Mia Clouatre. Predeceased by her matante Josee Perrier Davies (2014), her pépères Maurice Whissell (2015) and Gil Perrier (2018) and mémère Denise Dubien Pilon (2018).

Sophie was always so patient and so accepting and welcoming. She always gave you the benefit of the doubt before following the judgement of others; she saw you for you. Sophie always showed compassion to those she saw struggling, she could empathize with them. She was kind-hearted but strong-willed; she would lend you a hand if you needed it but she would rip you a new one if you tried to hurt her loved ones. She was tough – she was actually nicknamed “tuffie” as a child. Most would say she had a contagious laugh, and an even more contagious personality. Matante Sophie (Sobie) was such a loving aunt, she loved doing things with and for her niece Mia.

In the words of her mother… “Addiction claimed the life of my beautiful daughter. Gone forever, her demons proved more powerful than a families love. A family broken, a piece missing. I hoped and prayed this day would never come but here we are. I speak for many when I say, I am forever grateful, blessed and honored that I/we were part of Sophie’s short time here on this earth”.

Sophie was one of a kind and although we can’t see her anymore, we can feel her and hear the echo of her laughter through the memories we all share. Her calm and comforting aura followed her everywhere and that’s what brings us comfort because we feel that. We feel that she’s finally okay.

In honor of Sophie, make a change.

In light of the current pandemic, in efforts to protect the public and the family, they have decided to have a celebration of life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, remembrance donations to the Timmins Humane Society or your charity of choice would be greatly appreciated.
