Obituary for Roger P. Hermant

Roger P. Hermant
On Friday, February 12, 2021, Roger peacefully passed away at the age of 81. Roger was born and raised in South Porcupine and spent his youth alongside many lifelong friends he made growing up at the Dome Extension.
Always quick with a smile and a seemingly endless supply of jokes and stories, Roger was able to connect with many people on a personal level, which complemented his work as a sales agent for United Supply, Cochrane-Dunlop, and finally Westburne. After retiring with Eda, they spent several years travelling across the country and abroad before settling in Nanaimo BC, where they enjoyed the temperate weather, and easily established many new friendships. Those who know Roger also know that he was an avid outdoorsman, loved hunting and fishing and was happiest when at his beloved cottage at Papakomeka Lake. Roger also spent many years dedicated to the Schumacher Lions Club, and enjoyed the public service opportunities it provided as much as the countless gatherings with the members and their families. A devoted husband to Eda, and a strong role model to his children and grandchildren, he taught us to respect nature, live modestly and responsibly, and always take time to laugh and enjoy life.
Roger leaves behind his loving wife of 60 years, Eda, his sister Sandra Nelson - Grosse Pointe, Michigan, his three children, Mike (Lydia) Hermant - London, Karen Hermant (Jimmy Roy) - Schumacher, and Steve (Lisa) Hermant - Duncan, BC, as well as seven grandchildren, Marissa Vien (Tyler), Kyle Lawrence, Brent Secord (pre-deceased 2019), Ryan Hermant, Cameron Dupuis, and Maija and Anya Hermant. We will all miss his stories, jokes, loon calls, bagpipe impressions, whistling, and crazy sense of humor. Roger also had an affinity for calling people by their names backwards - fittingly, he left us with one final joke by the date of his passing, which is exactly the same when read frontwards or backwards. The family wishes to thank Dr. Calvin and the staff at Origin at Longwood (Astoria) for their compassion and exceptional care for Roger and Eda. Roger's Celebration of life will take place on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at the Miron-Wilson Funeral Home, Cremation and Reception centre from 12noon to 2 pm. Interment at Timmins Memorial Cemetery to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Roger's name to the Parkinson's Society of Canada at: https://www.parkinson.ca/getinvolved/waystogive/.
