Condolence: I’m so sorry I am so late to post my condolences. I was just thinking of Mr. Scully today while listening to Simon and Garfunkel. I have fond memories of dissecting their music lyrics in his English class, and I used this practice in my own classroom many times. He was an amazing person and teacher.

Condolence: Mr Scully was probably the most effective teacher I have had and certainly one of the most impactful on my life. Not only was he a superb teacher but I always remember his kind nature, quick wit and the interest he took in his students. I still have the electronic kit that he gave me (I have since shared it with my two boys) and I also remember the gentle coaching he gave me with my first girlfriend when I was first treading those interesting waters of dating. He was such a kind man and effective teacher.

Condolence: Mr. Scully taught me at O’Gorman H.S. and was one of the best teachers I’ve had. He respected his craft and that was of great benefit to his students, whom he also respected.

Condolence: Mr. Scully’s insight, humility, integrity, and compassion had a profound effect on me at a pivotal point in my adolescence. He was a master teacher in many ways and instilled a love and appreciation for English literature for countless unsuspecting students over the years. I enjoyed keeping in touch with him for several years after graduating from O’Gorman. I also had the pleasure of getting to know his Aunt Winnie during my time in Iroquois Falls. I was very much looking forward to visiting with him on a return trip later this year. His words, his amazing sense of humour, and his kindness will continue to be cherished by me. Mr. Scully was a good soul.

Condolence: I was one of the lucky few that had Ray as a teacher both in elementary school (Grade 5 Holy Family 1965) and at O'Gorman in the early 70's. I was also able to visit with Ray since October in Extendicare as his room was almost beside my Dad's. I'm pleased to report that Ray had maintained his quick wit and dry humour when I saw him last about 10 days ago. I'll miss those visits. Rest in peace Ray, I know you're in a better place.

Condolence: To the Family: Please accept our deepest sympathies and prayers on the passing of your beloved Ray. We were both lucky enough to have been taught by Mr.Scully and maintain a life long friendship with him.He was a humble ,quick-witted ,kind and caring man. He had a great influence on us in our formative years that we will always cherish. I will miss our after mass chats and your sunny outlook about all things. Condolence: Fairwell Ray. I have found memories of English literature classes and the insightful conversations around many of the novels, plays and poetry he enriched the classroom with. He cared a great deal for the students and it showed in his preparation and delivery of the course content. He had a very distinctive delivery in the front of the class. He would take a step or two forward and then measured would retrace those steps back ward with his right hand and forearm across his waist. He would repeat this pattern and sometimes move to another part of the room and repeat. I was just thinking yesterday how he set down rules and stuck by them: "Don't be late for class or you won't be allowed in the class"...true to his word some of us were tardy following a gym class and I can remember him closing the door in my face. He knew how much I enjoyed his literature classess and the disappointment on his face matched mine...I was never late for class again.

Condolence: My sincerest sympathies to the family of Ray Scully. I had the good fortune like so many others, of being a student of his at O'Gorman High School in Timmins. In his quiet and gentle ways he instilled confidence in his students. To him, everything and everyone had possibility. He truly was a man of deep humility and integrity. Rest in peace.

Condolence: I had the great fortune of learning under Ray as a student and a colleague. What a decent man who had a great sense of humour. One of his ideas that I copied was to teach The Tempest with Brave New World. It worked amazingly well. Like Prospero and William Shakespeare, Ray has left this stage for another, to a Brave New World. Rest in peace.

Condolence: “Ray” asked us to call him by his first in grade 13 but we respected him too much to do it. Mr Scully was one of the four greatest teachers/professors I ever had. He prepared me for university and my career as an English professor. I owe him a debt of gratitude that can never be repaid. God bless you Ray. You made all your classes enjoyable and did your best for your students. If I did half as well as you in my career the credit is to a large part yours. He will be missed. Condolence: Just a wonderful human being. So grounded, somewhat stoic yet so profound. There were no facades, what he represented we all knew, and as we aged and reflected on our time at O'Gorman with him, we got it! His disposition was one that transcended what he believed in and what he did in the classroom; there were no compromises. He 'walked the talk'! After OHS we'd go visit and he was so genuinely interested in what we were doing, how we were doing and wanting to know about our transition into University. We were like his 'kids'. He taught me lessons in kindness, humility and understanding. When I learned he was living at Extendicare, I was planning to connect with him when I visited Timmins this summer.
