A Little about Lise

With sadness, we announce the passing of our friend Lise T., who was supported at CTRC by multiple teams in her time with us. Most recently, Lise lived at our Lawrence Street residence. Lise’s 84th birthday was coming up on April 21st.

Lise was a devout Catholic that liked “un petit coupe de vin” every once in a while. We are grateful for staff securing a rosary and ensuring that her religious jewellery was with her in hospice, as well as for arranging for her last rites, per her wishes.

Lise would often speak of her family and growing up in Quebec- the large family gatherings and the decorations. Her memory was sharp for people, faces and places.  Lise had a fantastic sense of humour.  She loved music, from Johnny Cash to Celine Dion, and she sang songs with staff, particularly enjoying some of the racier tunes. She loved to read - paperback Harlequin romances were her favorites.

Lise loved to look good, with her diamonds and pearls, and Uggs for every occasion. She once refused to evacuate for a fire drill, telling the fire inspector to “Save my pearls! Save my pearls!” before moving.  Lise was very specific with what she purchased.  She liked high-end items and would first feel the material of the clothes, to see if she liked it before purchasing.  We are thankful for staff’s efforts to shop with her and find the specific items she wanted.  Lise was “une grande dame”, very sophisticated. She loved going to CSS where she would have her hair, nails and make up done to complement her lovely jewellery and clothes.

Lise was part of the cleaning team, when CTRC was an institution.  She was amazing at her tasks and very independent. When living at Emerald street with “the boys”, Lise helped with cooking, cleaning and shopping.  She enjoyed time in community in a Lifeshare arrangement, between group home supports, where she went on many trips, as well as participating in Special Olympics and attending Church.

Lise was a strong self-advocate – we know when it was time for iced caps and treats.  In her typical soft, polite, sweet voice, Lise would make sure people around her knew what she wanted and what she didn’t want!  There were occasions when her tone and volume were stronger, especially in recent years.  Everyone worked hard to ensure that Lise’s needs were met with dignity and compassion.

We extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who supported Lise.  Your efforts are truly appreciated.
