Obituary for Louis Morellato

Louis Morellato
It is with heavy hearts that the family announces Louis’ passing on Saturday, April 8, 2023 at the age of 75 years. Predeceased by his parents, Dorothy and Onorato Morellato. Survived by his loving wife, Joan Morellato. Dear father of Cary Morellato (Sandra Sparrow), Dean Morellato (Marlyss), Derek Morellato (Lise), Angela Kelly (Cory Tees) and Andrew Kelly (Helene). Cherished Nono to Dean, Gage, Mirella, Mason, Fiora, Nolan, Cooper and Corah. Respected brother of Pat (Giovani), Irene, George (Angela) and beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Louis was a proud, long-time Schumacher resident growing up in the house his parents built and where he and Joan later lived for many years. He had a love of the outdoors, especially his little piece of heaven at Mattagami Lake. He cherished his time there sharing in laughs with his family and long-time cottage neighbours, Chuk Buchar and Gerry and Linda Brousseau. He enjoyed many sunny afternoons down at the beach throwing the ball for his fur babies, Poochie and Munch.

Louis was known for sharing stories of the many experiences he had from his childhood to his 50 plus years working in the Plumbers and Pipe-fitter’s Union Locals 800 and 488. The multitude of friendships he developed during this time were immense. One could never compete with his quick wit and humour or his many one-liners such as “give your head a shake”, or “I’ll give you 5 under the eye”.

Louis was skilled in so many ways from entertaining us with his rendition of ‘The Battle of New Orleans’ by Johnny Horton to fixing what most thought was unfixable. Family and friends often called on him for advice and Louis’ calm perseverance when imparting his knowledge on us was like no other. We all benefitted from his expertise. He helped his children and grandchildren develop the life skills to be competent, self-sufficient and responsible. Louis has gone above and beyond over the years helping us get out of any mess we might have found ourselves in. He had a knack for organizing the group and getting the job done within a strict time frame; A time frame we often never thought we would meet but with his guidance, always did. He had more stamina than anyone else and often left everyone in awe with the tremendous feats he would complete on his own such as single handily moving a large wood stove into the cottage with a few pieces of wood. Louis was a devoted husband, father, Nono, workmate and friend. Louis’ constant presence, unwavering reliability, and fierce loyalty and support for those he loved helped us develop into the people we are today. We felt we could accomplish anything with him in our corner. He was a hero to so many and was truly one of a kind.

The family would like to extend a heart-felt thank you to Richard and Moira Wakeford. Their kindness and support are greatly appreciated.

As per Louis’ wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life has been planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, remembrance donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to MIRON-WILSON FUNERAL HOME, Cremation and Reception Centre, 150 Balsam St. S., Timmins.
