Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Lidia "Baba" Rycaj can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

1925-2019

It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the peaceful passing of Lidia “Baba” at the TADH Hospice unit on Saturday, October 26th, 2019 at the age of 94 years young. Predeceased by her husband Pawel “Paul”, infant grandson David Rycaj-Guillemette and infant great-grandson Ismael. Lidia is survived by her children: Leokadia (Arnel d.p.) Guillemette, Maria (late Per Frederiksen), Irena (Claude) Labelle, Elizabeth, Theresa (Cyril Recoskie), and Alexander. Special Grandmother “Baba” to Stephanie (Steve), Joanne, Cindy (Dan), Carole, Allain (Angel), Adrian (Nadia), Andrea (Sean), Alexandra (Lance). Great-grandmother to Christopher, Katelin, Kassandra, Brianna, Vannessa, Ryan and Alicia. Great-great grandmother to Maddison, Adora, Ari, Asta, Ayvy, Reid, Chaseton and Toben.

After serving in WWII, Lidia immigrated from Poland to Timmins in 1951 and became a proud Canadian in 1967. Lidia worked as a housekeeper for several local well-known doctors, and also at the Maple Leaf Hotel where she met some famous entertainers. Lidia was a member of the Polish White Eagle Society and was also a member of their Ladies Auxiliary.

The family would like to extend their thanks to Dr. Gillies and the 2nd Floor Medical A nurses and staff at TDH. A special thanks to Chrissy Barbuto, Johanna Wilmore, Vera Perron and Anu Harju-Panula at the Hospice unit for the care and compassion you provided our mother/grandmother during her remaining days. Words of gratitude are not enough to thank you.

The family will receive friends at MIRON-WILSON FUNERAL HOME, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, October 30th. Funeral mass to be held Thursday, October 31st from the St. Anthony's Cathedral at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at the Timmins Memorial Cemetery. Donations in Lidia’s memory can be made to the organization of choice.
