Obituary for Leonard "Len" Poan

The family announces his unexpected passing the morning of Friday August 9th during a round of routine morning golf, which he spent most his weekday mornings since his retirement. Most would know “Len”, “Mr. Poan” or “Safety Len” from the Kidd Creek Metallurgical site from the his beginnings at the Zinc Plant to his retirement role as the Health and Safety Supervisor at the Met Site Operations to the baseball diamond to the hockey rink. Loved the game of hockey as much as he loved his beer! The precious souls that have passed await you “Len”, for an endless supply beer, a game of hockey and laughs. Your work on earth is now done and unfortunately your time is now, you entrusted and indirectly instructed your soul mates on earth to strongly move forward and dance as if it were our last day! You always said “No one ever said Life was fair” but we say it will be “even” when we meet again! You will be missed never forgotten. Thank you for the memories!

Predeceased by his mother and father, Herman and Joan Poan and brother Carl Poan of Kirkland Lake, his son Darren Poan (Nicole Duciaume) of Timmins and his father-in-law Robert McLeod. Survived by his wife, Wendy (McLeod) of 47 years whom raised and rooted their family in Timmins. Survived by his daughter Holly Labine (Keith) son Darrel Poan ( Lisa) and daughter- in-law Lisa Trottier-Poan, all of Timmins. Also survived by his sister Cathy Le Clerc (Richard) of Kirkland Lake, and by his mother-in-law, Dorette McLeod and brother-in-laws Brian McLeod (Louise) and Wayne McLeod (Chris) along with numerous nieces and nephews and friends.

With his love of the game of hockey he spent countless hours at the rink supporting his twins Darrel and Darren and later with his grandchildren Brady, Travis and Tyler. His granddaughters Kennedy and Marrissa held a special place in his heart.
