Obituary for Joseph "Joe" Vodusek

Joseph "Joe" Vodusek
VODUSEK, Joseph "Joe"
March 18, 1942 – March 24, 2023
The family announces with great sorrow the passing of Joe Vodusek, on March 24, 2023, at the age of 81 years. Left to mourn are his beloved children, Brenda and David (Rada Deletic); his dear grandchildren, Colin and Chloe Finnila and Julia and Olivia Vodusek; and his sister, Ann Celinscak. Joe is the dear brother-in-law of Claire Delorme and Jeannine Fleming. He will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, and friends. Joe is predeceased by the love of his life, Suzanne Vodusek (née Delorme), his parents, Joseph and Julijana Vodusek, his stepmother, Manda Vodusek, and his sisters, Louise Kovac and Liza Sorsak.
Joe was born in Maribor, Slovenia, and immigrated to Canada in 1955. Joe had a long career of more than 46 years at the Timmins Daily Press, where he was the pressroom foreman. His proudest moments were as a grandfather to his four grandchildren who brought him much joy, and whom he loved wholeheartedly. Joe enjoyed camping, first at the Kidd Creek (Big Water) Campground in the 1970s and 1980s and more recently at the Finn Club in the Barber’s Bay area. Joe is well-remembered for his love of cross-country skiing, and as a long time member of the Porcupine Ski Runners. Joe was a provincially-ranked horseshoe player. Joe loved being active outdoors, and enjoyed cycling, walking, swimming, and bowling. He touched the lives of everyone he met with his kindness, humility, and generosity.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Ditullio, Dr. Vaithlingham, Val and the nurses and staff at Extendicare for their exceptional care and compassion. In keeping with Joe’s wishes, a private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joe’s memory to the Porcupine Ski Runners are greatly appreciated.
The funeral arrangements have been entrusted with the MIRON-WILSON FUNERAL HOME, Cremation and Reception Centre, 150 Balsam St. S., Timmins. To make online condolences, please visit www.mironwilson.com
