It is with great sorrow that the family announces the passing of John Kataquapit at the Kingston General Hospital on Thursday, May 5, 2022 at the age of 83 years. Beloved husband of Theresa Kataquapit (nee Wheesk). Loving father of Alexandra, Gisele (George), Joseph, Ignace, Maurice (Jackie), Elizabeth (Kenny), Jacqueline (John Peter), Colette (Dennis), Malesh and Marina. He will be missed by his grandchildren Waylon, Robin, Tanya, Dylan, Tashina, Mason, Jasmine, Brayden, Skylar, Kurtis, Winter, Kanisha, Kane, Charlie, Tyrell, Jade, Kahlee and Summer, his great-grandchildren Keira, Kree-lynn, Kennedy, Kaylon, Tianna, TJ, Tiara, Quintus, Tessa, Johnny, Khaydis, Tobias, Jaxon, Kendrick, Cedric, Taylor, Bella, Chase, Kyran, Kasen, Remiya, Darrian, Justice, Kheziah, Aira, Theodore and Kameran, his dear sister Jean Sutherland, his nephews, Bernard, Michael, George, niece Linda and his best friend Joseph Wheesk. John is predeceased by his parents Joseph and Lottie Kataquapit, his sister Madeline, his grandchildren Samantha and Taylor and his great-granddaughter Aleigha.

Our Papa, Mooshoomand Jaban was known for his music and his kind, generous heart. He was a historian of our community and family relations; was always present for community events and participated wholeheartedly.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff at the Fort Albany Hospital and the Kingston General Hospital for the care he received. A special thank you to the Fort Albany community and our extended family. Kihnnaskoomootinaw.

Visitation in Timmins will take place on Sunday, May 15, 2022 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Miron-Wilson Funeral Home. John will then be flown home to Fort Albany with his family at his side. The funeral service will be held on Monday, May 16, 2022 at 3:00 pm at the Holy Angels Church, Fort Albany, Father Michael Nwadinobi will be officiating. The funeral arrangements have been entrusted with the MIRON-WILSON FUNERAL HOME, Cremation and Reception Centre, 150 Balsam St. S., Timmins.
