Obituary for John Calvin Shumilak

John Calvin Shumilak

With loved ones by his side, it is with sorrow that the family announces his passing at the Timmins & District Hospital on Friday, April 19, 2019 at the age of 66 years. Dear father of Jeff (Dominique) Shumilak of Porcupine, Tracy Shumilak (Sean Ruscitti) and Cristin (Scott) Brady both of Ottawa. Cherished grandfather to Tanner, Walker, Emma, Gavin, Cailey and Ben. He will be missed by his loving partner Nicole Mathieu, along with the mother of his children, Michelle Shumilak. Left to mourn are his siblings Michael (Carole) Shumilak, Dwight Shumilak, Charlene (Dan) Shumilak, Robin Shumilak and Kathy (Arnold) Wainio. Predeceased by his parents John and Ethel Shumilak. He will be sadly missed by his fur baby "Heycat!"

John, known as Calvin, was born and raised in Dome Ex. He worked for many years as a miner, finishing his career at Hoyle Pond. Calvin was a great outdoors man, enjoying many of his days hunting and fishing, but sitting by a campfire with family and friends was his most cherished past time. Collecting antiques was one of Calvin's hobbies; he was a true Canadian Picker. Most of all, he loved spending quality time with his grandchildren, they were his pride and joy.

Respecting his wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will welcome friends and family to a Celebration of Life on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at 1 pm at the Airport Hotel in South Porcupine. Remembrance donations to a Charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated. The funeral arrangements are entrusted with the
