Obituary for Jacqueline "Jacquie" Eckert (Bénard)

Jacqueline "Jacquie" Eckert (Bénard)
Jacqueline 'Jacquie ' Eckert (née Bénard)
March 11, 1932 - September 14, 2020
Peacefully in her 88th year, our mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister & friend passed away at Extendicare LTC Timmins. Loving mother of Colleen (Larry), James (Debbie) & Alison (Brian). Proud grandmother of Riley (Tina), Peter (Miranda), Erika, Laura (Dan) & Edie. She will also be missed by her great grandchildren Keira, Owen, Julie & Desmond. Predeceased by her husband Norman (2012) after sixty one years of marriage. Jacquie was also predeceased by her parents Treflé & Eduourdina Bénard & her siblings Mary, Paul, Alice, Patsy, Irene, Art, Anne, Léo & Georgette. She is survived by her sister Simone Jasmin & many nieces & nephews. Jacquie was known in the community as an energetic, creative, dedicated & fashionable teacher. Her teaching career spanned from the 1950's until 1990. To this day, former students & colleagues would greet her with affection & fond memories. They would often reminisce about her enthusiasm, teaching style where all students mattered & her dangling earrings! Even in retirement, Jacquie volunteered with the Timmins Literacy Program. Her classroom was her kitchen table she so enjoyed getting to know her students who came to Timmins from such countries as Poland & China. Jacquie wasn't just their teacher of English, she was their friend & biggest fan admiring their courage & determination. Jacquie's love of her profession certainly impacted her family as one of her daughters & granddaughters have taken the same path into teaching! Jacquie married Norman in 1951 & over their years together in Timmins, they made many good friends & hosted the best parties in town! Jacquie showed much courage & resilience in her life. Her children are so grateful for her love & example. Her grandchildren & great grandchildren also got to experience Grandma Jacquie's love, flair for life & the pride she had in each of them. The staff of Gillies Lake Household at Extendicare Timmins say they will miss her warm & ready smile. The family thank them for the care & dignity they provided her in this last stage of life. In light of the current coronavirus pandemic, in efforts to protect the public and the family, they have made a decision to have a private family service. Remembrance donations to the Alzheimer Society or the Canadian Mental Health Association would be greatly appreciated. The funeral arrangements have been entrusted with the MIRON-WILSON FUNERAL HOME, Cremation and Reception Centre, 150 Balsam St. S., Timmins.
