Obituary for Gino Amodeo

Gino Amodeo
The family announces with great sorrow the peaceful passing of Gino Amodeo on the 18th day of November 2020 at the Timmins and District Hospital. It is with profound sadness that God calls a beloved husband, cherished father and Papa to heaven. In the arms of angels in his 83rd year he was a devoted husband of 56 years to his loving wife Gloria (nee Giallonardo). Beloved father of Dino and Mark (Sylvie). Cherished beyond words papa/nonno to Jamie (Kevin) Gino (Taylor), Olivia, Dominic and Nadia. Great-grandchildren Stella and Odin. Also Angie (daughter in law). Predeceased by his parents Giovanni and Teresa Amodeo. Brother Santo (Noris) and Sister Elena (Robert) Stefanizzi. Also survived by his niece and several nephews.

Gino started life and his hard but amazing journey in the small village of FiglineVegliaturo on the Calabrian Hills of Southern Italy in the province of Cosenza. His proud family worked the land and survived the many struggles during WW2. Gino immigrated to Canada at the age of 15 with no more than a small suitcase a few dollars and a promise of a better life. During his early years, he worked hard from laboring jobs to eventual small motor repairs. This proud and incredibly driven young man took English lessons at a local high school and learned to play an instrument. Ultimately having his own accomplished band, which played many weddings, New Year dances and a variety of shows across the region. Gino never stopped there. He took up the trade of electrician and became a master tradesman. Working in both the contracting field, residential and finally running an electrical crew at Texas Gulf/Kidd Creek. A proud Dante Club member he embraced his proud Italian heritage. Struggling with rheumatoid arthritis for years and the onset of heart problems. Gino was forced into early retirement and there is where his second life began. Making countless homemade Italian dishes for his family through the years. A vegetable garden anyone would envy and working on many home projects at a pace, his condition could endure. Gino left a pleasant presence with anyone who met him walking around Gillies Lake during the spring, summer and fall months. A daily task along with a strict diet he took seriously for 26 years he fought hard to live for many years and enjoyed life by keeping busy with a strong passion. Gino's grandchildren will remember countless hours of babysitting with nana and papa. Playing games in the basement with tons of laughter and love. You were more than a driven man with passion and perfection in all that you accomplished. Never a minute wasted. Always lending a hand. Chief you will be missed more than you could ever know. RIP now and forever...

A very special thank you to Angie and Doreen for their support. Thoughtful neighbors on Kimberly St. Thank you to Lia at TDH. The very caring Doctors and countless thoughtful and loving nurses on the 2nd floor medical and emergency dept. Also a special thank you to Dr. Jean Coté. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, a private family service will be held at the request of the family. The funeral arrangements have been entrusted with the
