Obituary for Colette Boudreau

Colette Boudreau
Colette Boudreau (née Giroux)
December 17, 1936 - December 2, 2020

With sadness, and deep appreciation for her life and love, Isidore and family announce Colette’s passing on December 2, 2020, at age 83. Colette’s life was one of faith in God, love of her family, and shared kindness and support for her friends. With her “mon chum” Isidore she shared sixty-three years of loving marriage, raised their seven children, and in her “spare time” worked many years as a bookkeeper. Colette’s family and friends shared in the blessings of her kindness, her perseverance, and her “un jour à la fois” wisdom and strength.

Born in Timmins, the youngest of seven, she lost her mother Eleonore at age eight, later spending four years in boarding school in Sturgeon Falls, then returning to care for her father Paul. Considering a Religious life, she entered Sisters of The Assumption convent in 1955, leaving the next year. In 1956, while working at St. Mary’s hospital, she and Isidore met and they married the next year.

Later in life, Colette was challenged with recurring health issues but never allowed an illness to define her. Her faith, her love of reading, and a penchant for writing strengthened her resolve to make the best of changing circumstances. The way she chose to live is expressed in one of her favourite sayings, “Live for the present, the past is history, the future is a mystery, today is a gift, that’s why it’s called the present.”

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Isidore, and her children Marcel (Helen), Lise Gallagher (Mike), Paul (Lisa Larivière), Nicole Armstrong (Bob), Francine (Ron Seguin), Chantal Salsbury (Michael), Claire Lajeunesse (George); and her grandchildren Joshua (Melissa), Lianne, Erin (Lawrence), Jason (Kailey), Lee (Katy), Nathalie, Eric, Mathieu and Nicolas, and most recently, her great-grandson Tyson. Colette is survived by her brother Gerald (Louise), and predeceased by her siblings; Lily, Joseph, Lilianne, Leo-Paul, and Betty. She will also be greatly missed by several brothers and sisters-in-law, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Her daughter Claire lovingly assumed a vital role in Colette’s healthcare in recent years, for which mom and our family were always most appreciative. The family would like to thank the many health care providers who have helped our mom over the years. These include, but are not limited to the many doctors as well as the team at the Canadian Mental Health Association's Senior Health Program. We are especially grateful to Dr. DiTullio and the staff at the Extendicare for the dedication and care they provided mom.

In light of the current pandemic, in efforts to protect the public and the family, they have decided to have a private family service. Remembrance donations to the Canadian Mental Health Association or another charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated. The funeral arrangements have been entrusted with the MIRON-WILSON FUNERAL HOME, Cremation and Reception Centre, 150 Balsam St. S., Timmins.

Elle a choisi de vivre pour le présent comme l’indique si bien son expression préférée : “Live for the present, the past is history, the future is a mystery. Today is a gift, that’s why it’s called the present.”
