Obituary for Eliana "Elaine" Cox (Lemieux)

Eliana "Elaine" Cox (Lemieux)
It is with great sadness that her family announces the peaceful passing of Elaine Cox on September 9th,2022 at the age of 84.
Elaine is survived by her son Dale (Dawna) and her grandchildren, Jamieson (Justin), Nolan and Maddie, as well as her sister, Lorette Levia of Brockville and numerous nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Herman, and eight siblings: Albert, Robert and Arthur Lemieux; Rose Lemieux; Irene Power; Helene Rousson; Louise Lamarche and Marie Lapalme.
Affectionately known as “Biz” by family and friends, Elaine lived a rich and full life dedicated to the care and service of others. She graduated from the St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1958, beginning a long and rewarding career in the field of nursing that saw her become the head of Inservice Education at St. Mary’s and the Quality Assurance Coordinator at Timmins and District Hospital prior to her retirement after almost 40 years of service.
Elaine and Herman were married on August 1st,1959 and enjoyed almost 50 years together until his death in 2009. They loved to travel, whether on their own, or with family and friends, and collected fond memories of trips to Hawaii, the Caribbean, Mexico, and Florida, before hearing the siren call of the slot machines of Vegas and Michigan.
Together with close friends the Montreuils, the Del Bels and the Marks, Elaine and Herman enjoyed innumerable Saturday night card games and elaborate holiday feasts. Elaine loved her Friday night “coffees” with Marilyn Del Bel.
Elaine was a loving and attentive Grandma who took great pleasure in entertaining her young grandchildren with slightly off-key renditions of “Yankee Doodle”. She was truly selfless and cared for Herman and her older sister Louise as their health declined. Elaine had a sharp mind, a quick wit, and she loved to laugh. She was absolutely and utterly dedicated to her husband, her son, her grandchildren and her siblings.
The family would like to thank the staff of Extendicare – Mattagami and Dr. DiTullio for the attentive and compassionate care provided to Elaine in her later years.
In accordance with Elaine’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. In lieu of flowers, remembrance donations may be made to the TDH Hospital Foundation or any other worthy charity of your choosing.
The funeral arrangements are entrusted with the MIRON-WILSON FUNERAL HOME, Cremation and Reception Centre, 150 Balsam St. S., Timmins. To make online donations or condolences, please visit www.mironwilson.com
