Obituary for Barbara Pagliero (Ponozzo)

Barbara Pagliero (Ponozzo)
The Pagliero family share at this time with broken hearts the passing on of their beloved Mother and Nonna, Barbara Panozzo Pagliero passed peacefully, radiantly and surrounded by love on April 24th , in Timmins District Hospital at age of 84. Predeceased by her cherished son Juliano and beloved daughter Nadia McDowell. Mourning her passing are her daughter Sonia Turner and husband Doug of Bathurst, NB, and Moreno Pagliero and partner Kathleen Black of Vancouver, BC. Grandchildren: Natasha (Mark) Byberg, Jason Turner, Hunter (Sonia) Turner, Erin (Paul) Bellehumeur, Justin Turner, Rhea (Sebastien) Godin, Angela Pagliero (Rashin Chander), Juliano (Kristen) Pagliero. Great-grandchildren: Kaileigh, Scott, Emma, Nicholas, Eli, Camilla, and Dominic. She was born in Tresche Conca, Italy one of 9 children to Ernesto and Angela Panozzo. She immigrated to Timmins, Ontario, Canada in 1958. Our mother endured many hardships but rose above them all like a phoenix from the ashes. Despite of it all, my mother was the first to tell a joke and the first to laugh at her joke. We are so blessed by her many talents her cooking would put Chef Ramsey to the test. Her beautiful knitting has adorned many Timmins babies and her family were never cold because of the abundance of hats, scarves, sweaters and mitts she lovingly made. Traditions were very important to her, the highlight for all of us was Christmas eve which started by attending the magical mass at Sacred Heart Church followed by the big Italian feast lovingly created by her. Because of the technology WhatsApp so many family and friends worldwide were able to stay connected with her to the end. Both Moreno and I sang to her in Italian the song Mamma, her face would light up when she heard the many voice messages or saw photos from those who cherished her. On FaceBook those who knew and loved her commented on her friendliness and smile. Today during this pandemic our smiles are covered by a mask but our kindness can be shown by a nod of the head or the wave of the hand. It brings us comfort in knowing that she is with those she missed and loved, who joyfully received her into heaven. A private funeral service will be held for her. During the war my mother told us times of starvation for her family, so for those wanting to make a donation think of the less fortunate in need during these difficult times and donate to the Salvation Army or a Food bank. Everybody has a grandmother but only the lucky ones have a Nonna and we had the best. The funeral arrangements have been entrusted with the MIRON-WILSON FUNERAL HOME, Cremation and Reception Centre, 150 Balsam St. S., Timmins.
